Makerspace
Here is our current Makerspace classroom! Pretty bare, right? Pretty soon it will be full of tools and supplies. Our first "Maker" project will be to design our Makerspace. Together we will explore what it means to "make," "create," and "build." Next we will brainstorm ideas for things we can make. Finally, we will gather the supplies and tools we need to transform this room into a functional space for our needs. For the rest of the year we will get to use this room to make other inventions and projects. I can't wait to see what these brilliant students come up with!
By creating with a cardboard box, kindergarten students learned the many steps involved in making a project. After hearing the project introduction, they brainstormed what they could do with a box and then created a team with one or two other students. Next, they planned with their team by drawing blueprints in a planning notebook. Once teams had an idea for their box, they choose supplies and started creating in our Makerspace room. Students formally critiqued each other's creations by giving warm and cool feedback and teams made revisions before exhibiting to the audience they had chosen, fellow students and family members.
