Our schedule:
8:15-8:30 Morning Meeting
Together as a class we will greet each other, discuss our schedule for the day, and make decisions about how our classroom works. 8:30-9:30 Tool Time: Math
Students will investigate numbers, measurement and geometry through an environment that promotes mathematical thinking, talking and discovery. |
9:30-9:45 Snack
9:45-11:00 Tool Time: Language Arts
In collaboration with the first grade class, students will cycle through centers with a reading focus. Small groups of students will meet with me while the others read to a partner, listen to books on tape, or explore letters and words at the word work center. |
11:00-11:45 Tool Time: Reading Workshop
During Reading Workshop students choose their own books to read. Students may choose leveled readers, student made books, nonfiction, big books or storybooks. I will confer with a few students each day to discuss book choice, personal reading goals and comprehension strategies. 11:45-12:30 Lunch

12:30-1:30 Research Project Time

1:45-2:35 Tinker Time
We are bringing building back to kindergarten! During tinker time we will journey over to our Makerspace to build, create, imagine, and innovate. Students will use spacial, problems solving, and collaboration skills to make all sorts of products. Look for our own Maker Faire coming in 2014! 1:45-2:35 Community Meeting (as needed)
In a democratic, student led classroom, we may need more time to problem solve, make decisions, and resolve conflicts that come up as the days go on. 2:35-2:45 Reflection
Before leaving, students will reflect on their learning each day including coming prepared to learn, excising their mind, and doing professional work. Starting in the middle of the year, reflection sheets will be taken home at the end of the week to guide family discussions. |
